JEAN-MICHEL FOLON – MANIFESTI / JEAN-MICHEL FOLON:POSTERS

Jean-Michel Folon è senza dubbio uno dei più significativi artisti che si sono dedicati all’arte del manifesto. Anzi, dice Andrea Rauch curatore di questa rassegna, assieme a Cristina Taverna, Folon può essere considerato l’esito ultimo della storia francese e mondiale de l’affiche, ma non solo questo. Di più, il ruolo di Jean-Michel nel panorama internazionale della grafica si lega soprattutto al suo modo di stendere il colore, di “fare l’acquarello” che, attraverso i suoi cartelloni storici, dagli anni sessanta del secolo scorso ha fatto scuola in tutto il mondo. In quegli anni Jean-Michel Folon divenne amatissimo e copiato ovunque. La mostra che il MAGMA presenta, accorpa le opere più note che vanno dall’inizio degli anni sessanta del novecento fino alla morte dell’artista, nel 2005. Manifesti quasi mai commerciali, manifesti di idee e di convivenza civile, che, nel tempo, ci parlano del rifiuto della pena di morte, dell’orrore per la strage di Bologna, del dissenso culturale, dell’attività di Unicef. Manifesti che non urlano mai il loro messaggio ma, sottovoce, parlano direttamente al cuore della gente. Sono, come scrisse lo stesso Jean-Michel “… immagini del silenzio a colori”.

No doubt, Jean Michel Folon is one of the most important artists who have devoted himself to the art of creating posters. And more! Andrea Rauch, the curator of this exposition says that Folon, like Cristina Taverna may be considered the last(ultimate) result of the French and the world affiches and not only that. Moreover, Jean – Michel’s role in the international panoramic of graphic art design depends mostly on his way of laying the colours and making “acquerello” creating historical posters that have taught the world  a lot since the 60’s of the past century. In those years, Jean Michel Folon got very loved and appreciated and copied everywhere. The exhibition that the Magma proposes and shows gathers together the most famous works that he created from the 60’s of the 20th century until the artist’s death in 2005. Almost  never commercial, posters of great inspiration and  civilised co-living that all along these years have told us about the refusal to accept the death penalty, the horror of the attack in Bologna, about the cultural disapproval, about the actions of the Unicef. They are posters that don’t shout their message out loud but talk directly to the heart of the  people under their breath. They are, as Jean Michel Folon himself wrote “images about colourful silence”
